Therefore, you can play a vital role in providing the most accurate statistics for the census. At Belleair Storage, we know how significant these numbers affect government statistics. Let’s all do our part to help the census!
How the Census Worked During the Pandemic
Census takers went door to door to collect responses in mid-July. They wore protective gear, practiced social distancing, and followed public health guidelines to minimize the spread of COVID-19.
Why Does the Census Matter?
According to the Census Bureau website, the following three reasons explain why the census is so important:
- Census results help determine how billions of dollars in federal funding flow into states and communities each year.
- The results determine how many seats in Congress each state gets.
- The U.S. Constitution mandates it in Article 1, Section 2: The U.S. has counted its population every ten years since 1790.
Census Data
Data collected in the 2020 census will drive decision-making, political representation, and economic development across the U.S. The results give a detailed statistical view of the country’s demographic makeup. It is paramount to achieve each household’s accurate count because it helps determine communities’ changing needs.
Real estate developers and policymakers use census data to base their decisions on developing land and building their cities. However, if this data is inaccurate, it will cause poor decision-making for the population that lives there.
Census data helps decide whether to build or expand amenities in certain communities. It also helps understand residents’ demographic makeup. Successful social events create a sense of community, and the census helps us get right to that community spirit.
The Census Protects Your Personal Information
The census maintains your anonymity when you respond to the census. All your responses do is help produce accurate statistics.
According to the website, the law protects your answers and keeps them strictly confidential. The law ensures that your private information is never published. In addition, no government agency or court may use your responses against you.
Help the Census
Those that live in gated communities or condominiums, the Census, must have access to avoid fines. For security purposes, field workers will have a valid identification badge. He or she may carry bags and other items with the Census Bureau’s logo visible. If no one is home, the census taker will issue information about how to respond to the census. Or he or she may leave a paper questionnaire in a water-resistant bag.
